History

The history of Burj Khalifa began in 2004, when the authorities of Dubai decided to undertake an ambitious project that would forever change the city's skyline and become a symbol of the modernity of the United Arab Emirates. The project was designed by the renowned architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, with Adrian Smith as the chief architect.

The construction took six years and cost approximately 1.5 billion dollars, making Burj Khalifa one of the most expensive buildings in history. Over 12,000 workers from all over the world worked on the construction site every day, dealing with extreme conditions – from blazing heat to working at dizzying heights exceeding 1000 meters. The impressive structure was built using 330,000 cubic meters of concrete and 39,000 tons of reinforced steel, ensuring its exceptional strength against strong winds and earthquakes. The building’s distinctive facade, made of 26,000 glass panels, not only gives it a shiny appearance but also reflects sunlight, helping maintain a comfortable temperature inside.

The official opening of Burj Khalifa took place on January 4, 2010, and was a spectacular event followed around the world. During the ceremony, presided over by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the sky was lit up by an impressive fireworks and light show. It was also at this event that the final height of the skyscraper was officially announced – 828 meters, which significantly surpassed previous records.
